Explanation

Chateau de Chambord is a renaissance castle, build in the 16th century by king Francois I of France. Because it is build after the middle ages and not as a defensible home it does not comply to the definition of a castle as used by this website. Refer to the menu background for more information. Explanation

Schloß Neuschwanstein is in de 19de eeuw gebouwd door koning Ludwig II van Beieren. Doordat het kasteel na de middeleeuwen gebouwd is valt het helaas niet onder de definitie van kasteel, zie definitie van kasteel in het menu achtergrond. Als Neuschwanstein in de top 100 zou staan zou het de 14de plaats innemen. Het kasteel is wel opgenomen in de lijst Buitencategorie. Neuschwanstein is niet gebouwd om daadwerkelijk verdedigbaar te zijn. In feite is dit kasteel gebouwd als romantisch beeld van hoe een kasteel er fantastisch mooi uit kan zien, en dat is mede door de locatie uitstekend gelukt. Het kasteel heeft model gestaan voor de Walt Disney-kastelen van Doornroosje en Assepoester.
