Description:  Clifford's Tower is the remaining keep of York Castle. The castle was originally built of wood around 1068 by William I (William the Conqueror). It was burnt to the ground in 1190. The present Tower was completed in 1259, as part of Henry III's comprehen???
Remarkable:  It was the site of one of the first pogroms against Jews in Europe in 1190.
